Tackling the menace of touts in railway bookings

We all have faced situations when we wanted to be first to login on IRCTC website to get tatkal ticket or even normal ticket. Or first to put our hand in window exactly at 8 AM on the day train booking opened. But only to realise that all the seats got booked exactly in 25 sec or may be even less. At the same time every now and then we hear that there is nexus between touts and the booking clerks. We also hear that there are computer programs which login exactly at 8 AM and book all the tickets. Railways had been increasing the capacity of its IT infrastructure but all of it chokes at 8 AM every morning. Railways also raids and book touts once in a while but the problem remains as it is. What is the solution to it? I offer a very simple but effective solution. Open the bookings 1-2 days in advance but keep all of them in waiting till 8 AM of the booking day. At 8 AM make a randomised list and allocate accordingly. Those left out be put in waiting list. After 8 AM all the bookin...

Case for allowing anyone to print NCERT books

The new academic session is going to start soon. It is delayed due to Covid-19 but when it starts there will be mad rush for books. There is always a problem faced by CBSE students to get NCERT books in time. The problem can be easily solved in single stroke. Allow any publisher to print it without any restriction and sell it at a cost he deems fit . Though the books are already available online but when it comes to printing it can be printed and sold only by NCERT. Though , theoretically, students can download and print it for self use but still it is not a substitute for a printed book. I wonder why should NCERT be bothered about who prints it !!!  When India did not have enough printers it made sense to have a government owned printing but now it does not makes sense. Rather it must be taking away lot of precious time, money and energy of NCERT in printing these books themselves. NCERT should focus on the content , a job they are doing quite well, and publish it online. ...

Case to switch to Multiple voting system from present first-past-the-post system

Case to switch to Multiple voting system from present first-past-the-post system  Today everyone feels that there is something wrong  with the electoral system. No one has any problem with democracy but people are perplexed as to why the elected governments are failing in their job?  Why increasingly there is effort to divide the society on one parameter or other? Why are parties narrowing  down their thinking day by day? Where are we leading and what is the solution? Some of the glaring problems of present electoral system are as follows  1. Large number of independents are contesting and are even getting elected. 2. We are getting governed by parties who have actually received less than 15% (on average) votes of the votes polled. 3. Even a small party with 10-15 members becomes a king maker. 4. Politicians are increasingly adopting divisive politics. All the parties try to present themselves as a champion of cause of a particular group however smal...
